Currency seizures can enhance any departments continued fight against crime by providing needed money that can be
used for training and equipment for their officers. Officers encountering currency under suspicious circumstances during
traffic stops need to have an understanding of the nexus to crime needed to effectively seize currency from suspected
criminals. We have successfully seized more than $32 million in currency from drug traffickers. The Currency section of
our course focuses on investigatory considerations along with a discussion about ethics, and the importance of
protecting the officer from theft allegations.
